In 2008, we were at Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington SC, and we met a young lady that became a dear friend to us almost immediately. Her name was Joyce Ann Cheek, but everyone knew her as "Joy", and it was obvious why... her personality was so infectious, and we always enjoyed getting to spend time with her and her mom and dad, and she became like our little sister. Now she wasn't without trials, as a matter of fact, Joy had been battling cancer for several years, and had just been released from the hospital a few days before we met. She left her mark on each one of us, and we mentioned her journey and her faith often during services.
Well, we were back at Freedom Baptist Church in May this year for Homecoming, and there was Joy! She was having a tough day and had been back in the hospital, as a matter of fact, she had only been out this time for a few days. We sat in the fellowship hall for the longest time with her and her mom & dad catching up, and it was so amazing, how through all of her treatments, she remained so steadfast in her faith, and it seemed to grow stronger day by day. Joy said she knew God had a plan for her, no matter what happened, she was sure He had a plan.............Today, we found out our dear friend Joy passed away on August 11th, 2010 at the age of 37......She has won her battle and fulfilled God's plan for her life. We ask that you remember her family, even though they know she has gone home, it makes them long for their First Day In Heaven.
